Jim proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after some 28 years of honorable and distinguished service. Jim, as a gifted athlete, also served as a member of the Air Force golf team, playing competitively around the world. After his service, he returned to New England, managing several key service components with area resorts including manager of the Minary Conference Center at Dartmouth College and as the head golf professional for the Bethel Inn and Country Club.

Jim was a three letter varsity high school athlete in Berlin, N.H., as well as an avid outdoorsman, hiking virtually every mountain and skiing every slope in New England, including Tuckerman’s Ravine and many out west. He was a member of the Ambassador program at Sunday River. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

As a Rotarian, Jim had been a member from its onset. He had served as club president twice, accepting responsibility for service with virtually every committee and role in the club and continued to serve as a true “role model” for others, defining to the community “What a good Rotarian is all about!” He was an active member of Our Lady of Snow Church in Bethel, the Bethel Historical Society, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans of Lewiston, the Air Force SGT. Association and the Mondt-Allen American Legion. He was awarded the Bethel Chamber of Commerce lifetime achievement award in 2012.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Patricia Monahan of Reno, Nev.; a granddaughter, Katherine Allen of Medford, Ore.; two great-granddaughters, Amanda and Katlyn; a great-grandson, Shawn; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years; and two brothers, Joseph and George.
